Turkey-Themed Treats

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because there is no gift-giving pressure. Everyone can find something that pleases them at the Thanksgiving table because it’s really all about the food! There was a time when I didn’t really look forward to Thanksgiving, particularly when my husband was deployed overseas, and especially the year my mom died (and he was also deployed). I think that was the year I bought a turkey loaf because I didn’t see the sense in roasting a turkey for just me and two small kids. Worst turkey decision ever! What came out of the oven was a slimy (gravy included in the pan), spongy, block of starch that made no pretense at tasting palatable. After that experience, you bet I won’t even go near it or other turkey-esque products like Tofurkey.

If you’re anything like me, by this time you are starting to question your ambitious Thanksgiving plans. I have decided to downgrade some of the dishes I wanted to prepare just to relieve myself of the stress. But that doesn’t mean that we let the bird have the only starring role. Here are some treats that require minimal effort and are fun to make. but screams Thanksgiving. So enjoy!
